Welcome

Working in a high street pharmacy can be physically and mentally demanding. Long shifts on your feet, frequent interruptions, queue pressure, difficult conversations, stock checks, delivery handling, and maintaining accuracy while tired all contribute to accumulating stress. Regular movement and targeted exercise can help reduce that stress, speed recovery, and support steadier energy and concentration through the week.
This course is aimed at pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers, medicines counter staff, delivery staff, managers, locums and other high street pharmacy team members. It draws on UK-wide physical activity guidance, Great Britain professional standards, and UK and nation-specific public health and workplace stress guidance. Because employer policies and support routes vary across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, follow your local policies and national pathways where relevant.
This course does not provide personalised medical advice or exercise prescriptions. It explains how movement and exercise can support stress management and wellbeing in practical terms. If you have been inactive for some time, are pregnant, or have a health condition, disability, injury, chest symptoms, dizziness or new or worsening pain, get clinical advice before making major changes to your exercise routine.
Why This Course Matters
- Stress affects the body as well as the mind: pressure at work often shows as muscle tension, fatigue, poor sleep, restlessness and slower recovery.
- Exercise aids recovery: regular activity can support mood, concentration and sleep quality as well as physical fitness.
- Short sessions are effective: beneficial activity does not require long gym visits or advanced training plans.
- Consistency beats intensity: a practical routine you can maintain during busy weeks is more useful than an ideal plan that you abandon.
How This Course Will Help You
By the end of the course you should be able to explain how physical exercise helps reduce stress, select activities that fit your energy and schedule, build a realistic routine around pharmacy duties, and recognise common barriers and safety limits so exercise supports you rather than adding pressure.
