Core Responsibilities
- Use patient information only for authorised work purposes.
- Keep patient information confidential and secure at all times.
- Access only the records you need to perform your role or task.
- Share information only via approved routes and with people who have a legitimate need.
- Identify and forward patient rights requests promptly to the appropriate person.
- Report suspected breaches, near misses and unsafe shortcuts immediately so the practice can contain and assess them.
Exam Focus
- Health information is sensitive and requires strong protection.
- Confidentiality covers conversations, screens, documents, messages and devices.
- UK GDPR principles include lawfulness, fairness, transparency, data minimisation, accuracy, storage limitation, integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
- Subject access requests may be made in ordinary language and must be handled correctly.
- Dental nurses must not use shared logins, personal phones, personal email or unapproved tools for identifiable patient information.
- Report incidents promptly to allow the practice to contain any breach and assess its impact.
