• The primary target is S 2.6: Utilise the receipt of effective feedback in the professional development of self.
• The course sits in the GDC Safe Practitioner Framework domain of Self-management, sub domain Reflection, Continued, and Self-Directed Learning.
• Linked behaviour S(B)4: Demonstrate own professional responsibility in the development of self.
• Linked behaviour S(B)5: Develop and maintain professional knowledge and competence.
• Linked behaviour S(B)6: Demonstrate appropriate continuous improvement activities.
• Dental nurses should link self-management to patient safety, scope of practice, communication, record keeping, feedback, CPD, reflection and escalation.
• Maintaining insight, learning from experience and supporting wellbeing are professional responsibilities; however, unsafe systems must still be raised through the correct channels.
• When using factual language: pause, clarify, seek advice, hand over, record, report, reflect or escalate as appropriate.
• Plan, record and review personal development rather than leaving it informal.
• Keep reflection confidential, proportionate and focused on learning and safer future practice.
