• Dental nurses should connect self-management with patient safety, scope of practice, communication, record keeping, feedback, CPD, reflection and escalation.
• Insight, learning and wellbeing are professional responsibilities; unsafe systems must be raised through the correct channels.
• Use factual language: pause, clarify, seek advice, hand over, record, report, reflect or escalate.
• Personal development should be planned, evidenced and reviewed rather than left as informal intent.
• Reflection should be confidential, proportionate and focused on learning and safer future practice.
