Video: ACT Essentials

Two hands forming a rectangular frame against sky

This short video explains core ACT ideas in plain language. As you watch, notice which points match everyday dental practice situations such as a late-running clinic, an anxious patient, an interrupted handover, decontamination pressure, or the self-critical thoughts after a difficult moment.

ACT skills are for self-management in this course; they do not make dental nurses therapists or replace appropriate support.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT Therapy Explained)

Video: 8m 35s · Creator: The ACT Therapist. YouTube Standard Licence.

The video presents Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a way to respond differently to difficult thoughts and feelings. It highlights noticing internal experiences, making room for discomfort when it cannot be removed, and choosing actions linked to personal and professional values.

ACT does not require feeling calm before acting. It teaches psychological flexibility: staying present and doing what matters even when stress, anxiety or self-critical thoughts are present.

For dental nurses, the practical point is this: a thought like "I cannot cope with this" can be noticed without being treated as a command. You can still act in ways guided by safety, kindness, teamwork and professionalism.
