Creating a Personal Mindfulness Routine for Resilience

Person meditating beside a calm lake

A mindfulness routine can be brief and practical. For optical practice staff, the most realistic routines attach to existing moments: before a shift, after handover, while washing hands, before calling the next patient or customer, after a difficult conversation, or at the end of the day.

Building a routine

  1. Choose one cue: for example, washing hands, cleaning equipment, finishing documentation, or reaching the staff room.
  2. Choose one short practice: one breath, a 30-second body scan, a mindful walk along the corridor, or a brief gratitude note.
  3. Keep it realistic: a daily 30-second practice is more likely to be sustained than an ambitious plan that rarely happens.
  4. Review gently: if it slips, restart without self-criticism.

Scenario

An optical assistant wants to use mindfulness but feels there is never time. She often leaves work replaying difficult moments and worrying about what she missed.

What routine could be realistic?

Clinical role example

Scenario

An optometrist wants a mindfulness habit that fits into the day rather than becoming another task. They often move quickly between cleaning equipment, checking the diary and calling the next patient.

What would a realistic habit look like?

The best mindfulness routine is the one you can actually repeat. Start small enough that it fits real optical practice work.
