Scenarios: Boundary Awareness

Boundary drift starts small. Two common pressure points are over-involvement with a single patient and sales conversations that blur clinical advice with commercial pressure. This page looks at brief, recognisable vignettes where professional distance can slip, followed by focused actions to reset boundaries, protect patients and staff, and record decisions clearly. [1][3]
Practical scripts that help under pressure
Calm, neutral language keeps trust intact. "I'll outline the clinically appropriate options first, then we can look at features that match your budget and preferences," helps in sales conversations. "I need to bring this conversation back to our professional channels," resets contact kindly without shaming. [3][5]
Accountability details to capture
- Who/what/when/why - who noticed the drift or pressure, what was changed (communications channel, appointment length, sales script), when reviews will occur, and why the actions protect dignity and objectivity. [6]
- Contacts and consent - who was informed (supervisor, manager), whether the patient agreed to any transfer or change, and what consent was recorded for follow-up. [6][3]
- Boundaries made visible - where scripts were updated, signage added, or incentives documented to reduce ambiguity for the team. [7][4]
