• Linked behaviour S(B)1: Accurately assess your own capabilities and limitations in the interest of high-quality patient care and seek advice from supervisors or colleagues where appropriate.
• Linked behaviour S(B)2: Recognise personal assumptions, biases and prejudices and manage the impact of these on patient care and professional behaviour with colleagues, patients and wider society.

• Dental nurses should connect self-management with patient safety, scope, communication, records, feedback, CPD, reflection and escalation.
• Insight, learning and wellbeing are professional responsibilities, but unsafe systems still need to be raised through appropriate routes.
• Use factual language: pause, clarify, seek advice, hand over, record, report, reflect or escalate.
• Personal development should be planned, evidenced and reviewed rather than left as informal intention.
• Reflection should be confidential, proportionate and focused on learning and safer future practice.
