Welcome

This course is for dental nurses who require targeted CPD for the GDC Safe Practitioner Framework Self-management learning outcome S 1.1: Explain what is meant by the term insight in the context of professional practice.
SPF fit: This course supports the GDC Safe Practitioner Framework domain of Self-management, sub domain Insight. It focuses on learning outcome S 1.1 and maps to behaviours S(B)1: Accurately assess your own capabilities and limitations in the interest of high-quality patient care and seek advice from supervisors or colleagues where appropriate; S(B)2: Recognise personal assumptions, biases and prejudices and manage the impact of these on patient care and professional behaviour with colleagues, patients and wider society; S(B)3: Recognise the impact of contextual factors on the health care environment and patient safety and manage this professionally.
The Self-management domain expects dental nurses to adapt and respond to situations using insight and reflection. It also expects them to plan and manage time, maintain learning and manage personal or workplace pressures so patient care remains protected.
Why This Course Matters
- It is targeted: the course is built around one SPF Self-management learning outcome rather than a broad topic.
- It is dental-nurse specific: examples concentrate on chairside care, reception cover, decontamination, records, handover, CPD, feedback, wellbeing and safe escalation.
- It keeps scope clear: dental nurses will see how to observe, prepare, support, record, ask, escalate and reflect while remaining within their role and competence.
- It supports professionalism: S1.1 is presented as practical knowledge for safer practice rather than as framework wording alone.
