Exam Pass Notes

Use these notes as a brief review before the assessment. They highlight the practical points from the course but do not replace your home's policies, local procedures or legal advice.
- In England, the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 set the legal framework for registered children's homes.
- The nine Quality Standards describe outcomes and expectations for children’s care.
- Quality Standards should be apparent in everyday care and practice, not only in managers' paperwork.
- The Statement of Purpose must accurately reflect the service the home actually provides.
- The Children's Guide should explain the home, children's rights and how they can get help.
- Good matching reduces risk; unstable or unrealistic placements increase it.
- Key workers or link workers connect care plans, relationships and daily support.
- Supervision should support reflective practice, clarify accountability and improve care quality.
- Serious incidents must be escalated promptly so Ofsted notifications are not delayed and, where possible, made within 24 hours.
- Inspection evidence should show children's lived experience, progress and the impact of care, not only tidy documents.
- Regulation 44 monthly visits and regulation 45 quality reviews at least every six months test whether the home's account is accurate and whether improvements are occurring.
