Welcome to Safeguarding Children: Level 2 for Non-Clinical Pharmacy Workers

Hands surrounding wooden people figures

Pharmacy support staff encounter children, young people, parents and carers during routine interactions: collecting medicines for a child, requesting help at the counter, speaking on the telephone, or making a delivery. These everyday contacts can sometimes be the first indication that a child or young person may be at risk.

This course is for dispensers, medicines counter assistants, reception staff, delivery drivers and other non-clinical pharmacy workers who meet children, young people, parents, carers and families in their work. It covers Level 2 safeguarding children knowledge needed to recognise concerns, respond appropriately, make accurate records, and share or escalate concerns using local safeguarding pathways.

Why This Course Matters

You do not need to be a clinician to spot signs that a child may be harmed, neglected or vulnerable to exploitation or coercive control. A calm, professional response combined with clear records and timely escalation can help secure protection for a child sooner.

  • Recognise a wider range of concerns: Notice warning signs, patterns and vulnerability factors that may affect children and young people, including those at increased risk.
  • Respond safely and professionally: Take appropriate action if a child or parent raises a concern, a child appears frightened, or immediate protection may be required.
  • Record and share information well: Make factual notes, distinguish fact from opinion, and recognise when information should be shared to protect a child.
  • Use the right pathways: Understand the role of the safeguarding lead, follow local procedures, use early support or early-help routes where available, and know how to escalate to child protection or emergency services.

How This Course Will Help You

On completion you will be better able to use professional curiosity, keep the child's perspective in mind, recognise immediate risk, respond sensitively, and work within the limits of a Level 2 non-clinical role.

This training supports Level 2 safeguarding children practice for non-clinical pharmacy workers in patient-facing pharmacy services.
