Scenario 3: Child Disclosure

Scenario

You are conducting visual acuity testing in the clinic room. A 10-year-old is sitting on the chair and, in a low voice, says, "I don't like going home; I get in trouble and it hurts." The caregiver remains in reception.

How should you respond in the room, and what happens next?

Scenario 4: Parent-Child Conflict

Scenario

During the consultation, a parent dominates responses, speaks harshly, and the child appears fearful, avoiding eye contact. When the child tries to answer, the parent interrupts and speaks over them.

What are the red flags and your immediate actions?
