Reporting discomfort and making adjustments

Raising discomfort early makes it easier to fix. A small change to screen height, chair position, work pattern or equipment can resolve symptoms. Waiting until pain is frequent or severe makes treatment and recovery harder.
Be specific when you report an issue. Describe where it hurts, when it occurs, which device or workstation is involved and what adjustments you have already tried. Clear detail helps managers decide what to review.
Adjustments are often simple. Examples include changing chair height, moving a screen, reducing glare, using a different mouse, rescheduling online training or ensuring a shared workstation is actually adjustable.
Things worth raising early
- Repeat symptoms: the same discomfort linked to the same task.
- Workstation changes: a move, new desk or new device.
- Setup limits: furniture or equipment that cannot be adjusted well.
- Workload pattern: long admin blocks or increased screen time.
- Unhelpful workarounds: using poor spaces because the better one is never free.
Early reporting turns DSE discomfort into a manageable workplace issue instead of a private problem that keeps getting worse.
