Pharmacy Team Scenarios

These scenarios show how the pharmacy team prepares, coordinates and raises concerns in everyday practice. They emphasise that effective safeguarding depends on clear systems, agreed escalation routes and a culture where staff speak up.
It is a busy Saturday morning and a woman collecting medication quietly tells the counter assistant, "I can't talk now - he checks everything I say." Her partner is waiting two metres away and watching closely. The consultation room is currently in use, the queue is growing, and a new team member looks unsure what to do next.
How should the team respond?
A delivery driver reports that a regular older patient looked frightened during a home visit and that the home appeared unsafe. The supervising colleague replies, "Don't start making trouble from one visit." Over the next week, the same colleague discourages further discussion and does not pass the concern on.
What should you do next?
These examples show how clear roles, reliable processes and a culture of speaking up help turn concern into protection.
