Welcome to Safeguarding Adults at Risk: Level 2 for Non-Clinical Pharmacy Workers

Pharmacy support staff meet adults during routine interactions: when someone collects medicines, asks for help at the counter, speaks on the telephone, or receives a delivery. These everyday contacts may reveal signs that an adult is unsafe, unsupported, or unable to speak freely.
This course is for dispensers, medicines counter assistants, reception staff, delivery drivers and other non-clinical pharmacy workers who encounter adults, carers, families and the public. It covers the Level 2 safeguarding adults knowledge needed to recognise concerns, respond appropriately, record clearly and escalate through the correct safeguarding pathways.
Why This Course Matters
Even without providing clinical care you may encounter abuse, neglect, coercion, exploitation or self-neglect, or notice wider vulnerability. A calm response, accurate records and prompt escalation can protect someone sooner.
- Recognise a wider range of concerns: Identify warning signs, patterns and vulnerability factors that can appear in pharmacy settings.
- Respond safely and professionally: Know how to act when someone discloses abuse, appears frightened, seems controlled by another person, or may need urgent protection.
- Record and share information well: Make factual notes, separate fact from opinion, and know when information should be shared to protect an adult at risk.
- Use the right pathways: Understand the role of the safeguarding lead, local procedures, emergency escalation, adult safeguarding routes and when consent or capacity issues require further advice.
How This Course Will Help You
On completion you will be better able to apply professional curiosity, consider the adult's views, recognise immediate risk, respond sensitively and work within the limits of your Level 2 non-clinical role.
This training supports Level 2 safeguarding adults practice for non-clinical pharmacy workers in patient-facing services.
