Welcome to Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk: Level 2 for Non-Clinical Pharmacy Workers

Pharmacy support staff often meet people at ordinary but important moments: collecting medicines for a child, asking for help at the counter, speaking anxiously on the telephone, or receiving a delivery at the door. Sometimes those everyday contacts are the first sign that something is not right.
This course is designed for dispensers, medicines counter assistants, reception staff, delivery drivers, and other non-clinical pharmacy workers who have regular contact with patients, families, carers, and the public. It focuses on the Level 2 safeguarding knowledge needed to notice concerns, respond appropriately, and escalate or share information in the right way.
Why This Course Matters
Even when you are not providing clinical care, you may still notice abuse, neglect, exploitation, coercive control, or wider vulnerability. A calm response, a clear record, and timely escalation can help keep a child or adult at risk safer.
- Recognise a wider range of concerns: Identify warning signs, patterns, and vulnerability factors affecting children and adults at risk.
- Respond safely and professionally: Know what to do when someone discloses abuse, appears frightened, or needs urgent protection.
- Record and share information well: Make factual notes, differentiate fact from opinion, and understand when confidentiality can be overridden for safety.
- Use the right pathways: Understand the role of the safeguarding lead, local procedures, emergency escalation, and referral routes.
How This Course Will Help You
By completing this course, you will be better prepared to use professional curiosity, recognise immediate risk, respond sensitively, and contribute to safer pharmacy practice.
This training supports Level 2 safeguarding practice for non-clinical pharmacy workers across patient-facing pharmacy services.
